"Youth With A Purpose (YWP)" proudly presented an enlightening evening of art inspired by Black History, "Traveling Through Time".

The reception took place on Friday, Feb. 29, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Asbury Park Council Chambers Room. This Black History Art Exhibit featured talented young artists and their mentor, artist Laura Brunetti of L'Estrella Studio. Ms. Brunetti has been an active mentor for this talented youth group and has hosted many art classes at her art studio.

"Youth With A Purpose" is a program for at-risk youth offered at Mercy Centers' Family Resource Center located at 1108 Main Street, Asbury Park. YWP is an 18 week program for boys & girls 8-11 years old. The group meets twice a week from 3pm to 5pm and transportation is available. The program provides activities geared towards enhancing ones social skills, leadership skills, and the opportunities to express ones unique abilities through art and creative writing.

For information about registration, please contact Tara Gilbert at 732.774.9397 X 20 at the Family Resource Center.

Laura Brunetti is a graduate of Monmouth University in Marketing, a graduate of The Western School of Feng Shui and also attended DuCret School of Art in Plainfield, NJ.

She has reached out to the community and is donating her studio for art and poetry lessons for at-risk youth.

"There is nothing more rewarding in the educational process than to be able to touch and to literally absorb your own work of Art. The collections I create are for posterity", Brunetti cheers. "As an artist, I also express myself through watercolor, gouache and collage."
